
Woodhull, NY... Donnie Lawson has become a household name over the past handful of years primarily in Crate Sportsman competition. After winning back to back to back track titles at Woodhull in Crate action, the second generation Addison, NY speedster has changed his focus to the high powered Insinger Performance Modified Class at Woodhull for 2011. Having competed full time with the Modifieds several years ago before moving to the Crate Division, Lawson has rejoined Woodhull’s top division and made noise right from opening night with solid weekly finishes. Last week he took full advantage of an upfront starting position, waited for then race leader, Mike Bills to stumble, held off a relentless late race charge from current high point man, Al Rudalavage and nailed down the popular win. The opening seven laps found great racing throughout the entire field and then yellow fever took over the event with no less than ten cautionary periods slowing the pace. However, each time Lawson was able to keep everyone at bay to claim win number one of his career at Woodhull in the 358 Class. Rudalavage was able to solidify his number one point’s position with the well deserved runner-up finish after starting eleventh on the grid. Mike Bills finished third at the checkered followed by Bob Davis with Jamie Batzel in a rare Woodhull appearance rounding the top five. Six thru ten were Gil Tegg Jr., Frank Dunning, Kevin Chilson, Ray Bliss Jr. and Kenny Peoples Jr.
Donnie Lawson Caps Off Perfect Opening Weekend!
Woodhull, NY... Donnie Lawson capped off a perfect weekend in the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Division as he nailed down the win in what appears to be his final appearance in Crate Sportsman action at Woodhull during the regular 2011 race season. After claiming the win on Friday night at Penn Can Speedway, Lawson was able to hold off a determined Ajay Potrzebowski to take the feature win as he will be moving full time to the 358 Modified Class this year. Early in the 25 lap feature Art Goodier looked poised to have a solid top three finish, however a mechanical glitch sent him to the pit area negating a good run. For Lawson and Potrzebowski it was like 2010 all over again with the two battling for the win with Ray Smith coming home with the third place podium position. Roger Williams and Mike Jackson rounded out the top five. Six thru ten were Brett Buono, Ryan Tracey, John Hargrave, Rod Mullen and Don Lawson.
Donnie Lawson Takes "Can Opener" at Penn Can Speedway!
Susquehanna, PA... Donnie Lawson has found Penn Can Speedway to his liking. The frequent visited drew the pole for the twenty lap feature event. Lawson and Corey Ziegler would swap positions leading in the early going. With Lawson out front all of the action was for the second position between Ziegler, Mike Nagel, and Butch Green. All eyes however were on the Jeff Crambo mount. Troubles in his heat forced him to start the event at the rear. Lap after lap Crambo came charging through the field. He moved into the runner-up spot but ran out of laps. Lawson took the win with Crambo settling for second. Ziegler, Green, and Nagel rounded out the top five finishers.
